Three methods put a mark on a device, and they fail in different ways. The choice is a trade between permanence, colour and what your run size can carry.
Laser etch. A focused beam alters the surface, either by removing an anodised or coated layer to expose the substrate beneath, or by marking the material itself. Nothing is added to the device. The setup is a vector file and a jig, so a change of artwork is a change of file rather than a change of tooling.
Pad print. Ink is picked up from an etched plate by a silicone pad and transferred to the part. It handles curved surfaces well, which is why it is common on cylindrical hardware. Each colour needs its own plate, its own pad and its own pass through the machine.
Printed wrap or label. A separate printed film, shrink sleeve or adhesive label applied to the finished device. Printing happens on flat stock, so full colour, gradients and photographic detail are straightforward. The decoration is a layer sitting on the part.

Laser etch fails on contrast. The mark shows because the exposed material differs in tone from the surface around it. On a light or unanodised finish there may be very little difference, and the logo that looked sharp on a black sample becomes faint on a silver one. Always approve an etch on the actual finish, not on a different colour of the same device.
Pad print fails on adhesion and on registration. Ink needs the right pre-treatment for the substrate, and a run that skipped it looks fine at goods-in and rubs off in a pocket within days. Multi-colour prints also have to line up, and on a curved part the tolerance for that is small. Ask for a rub or tape test result on the production finish rather than on a flat coupon.
Wraps fail at the edges and in heat. A film that has been applied over a step, a parting line or a seam will lift there first. Warm storage and long transits accelerate it. A wrap also covers the body, so anything you wanted the material to say about quality is no longer visible.
Two published examples show how manufacturers themselves treat the methods. CCELL's site content presents a laser-engraved logo as one of three checks for identifying genuine cartridges, which tells you the mark is treated as a permanent identifier rather than as decoration. Nextvapor's published customisation services list logo printing or engraving alongside colour and finish options, which is the more common framing of the choice as a menu item. Both are supplier statements rather than independent findings.

Decoration choice is mostly a question of what your volume can absorb. Setup is paid once per run, so at low volume the method with the least setup wins on cost even when it is not the method you would choose on appearance.
At a first order in the region of a few hundred to a thousand units, a single-position laser etch is usually the least painful route, because there is no plate to pay for and no colour to approve. Branded runs at Empty Vapes start from around 500 units and made-to-order production runs to around six weeks after sign-off, so the etch decision does not extend the schedule the way plate making can.
As volume grows, pad print becomes reasonable and a second colour stops looking expensive. Full-colour wraps make sense when the body shape suits them and the brand needs imagery no single-colour method can carry. Many brands never move past the split that works from the start: an etched mark on the device, full colour on the box. Price that option before you pay for device decoration at all.
